DESCRIPTION:

Lot of Mandarin Garnet from Nigeria and/or Namibia with the most spectacular pure orange color. These are nice chunky water worn nodules for the most part with a bright Mandarin orange color. All of these stones have some inclusions with the bulk being slightly to moderately included. These inclusions are typical for this Garnet species and it is extremely rare to find clean Mandarin Garnets in this size. Most finished stones will be slightly included to moderately included and should cut in the 2+ carat range if cut for yield. There are a few cleaner stones in here that will cut very slightly included; however, there will probably be above average weight loss. This is the third shipment of this material that was sent to us and we are still working on establishing a regular supply of this material; however, this has been somewhat difficult to do at a reasonable rate with conformity of material. Please note that this material flies and we may not get additional material for quite some time! Don't miss out on picking up a sample to taste of this!

Please note that what one considers facet grade in Mandarin Garnet may not be considered the same in Smokey Quartz or Almandine Garnet. Mandarin Garnet is almost ALWAYS slightly to moderately included at best and this is the material you see being sold by Nigerians as "Eye-Clean" and Top grade for the most part. These is premium sized material and we only have a limited amount of this on hand.

COOL FACTS:
  1. Nigerian and Namibian Mandarin Garnet deposits are fast being depleted with most of the earlier larger material gone already. Initial finds were alluvial in nature and as those sources are depleted more work will be required to unearth these treasures at the primary deposits. This in the end will boil down to higher prices and sporadic production. Mandarin Garnets are already costing well into the hundreds per carat for stones that are a few carats in size.
