DESCRIPTION:

Awesome ULTRA RARE Afghan Hackmanite SELECT Facet Rough! We were EXTREMELY lucky to come across this rough and were thrilled at the clarity. The color is a pretty uniform Deep Bluish Purple like nothing we have seen before and most of these stones should cut in the .5-1 carat range with a little hard work at the eye-clean to very slightly included level.

Please Note: This material was sold to us as being TREATED and we are fairly confident that it has been irradiated. The color is stable and the material even Tenebresces. We have been sold similar colored parcels as being natural; however, the uniformity in color on the entire parcel is a good give-away that the material is treated. This treatment is getting more wide spread; however, it has never been disclosed as of thus far from what we have seen. If this material were natural it would probably easily run several hundred dollars per gram at the least! Even if this were untreated clear material in this clarity range it would run around $40 or so Per Gram!

If you do a little research in the market place you will see that Hackmanite Gems command some pretty wild numbers and this lot is a give away at this price. This is the BEST lot of Hackmanite we have up and it is exceptionally large for the clarity so don't miss your chance to own some! We have gotten word that the mines in Afghanistan are DRY! We don't know if we will get much more of this material so for all you collectors this is a win win situation!

COOL FACTS:
  1. Hackmanite is known to change color by exposure to different forms of light and its color change is known to be Tenebrescent. The color of the material at times can be enhanced by storage in a dark place; however, may fade upon exposure to light. This change is repeatable and not permanent. In addition, Hackmanite also produces some wild colors under UV light and is highly sought after by collectors.

  2. Hackmanite Facet Rough is a transparent variety of Sodalite that is "Tenebrescent" and is extremely rare to come across. Afghanistan has been a steady supplier to mineral enthusiasts for Hackmanite crystals and we have rarely come upon any facet grade material.
