GRAPE GREEN TO FUCHSIA PINKISH RED

Lot: Tourmaline-254

STONE 1

19.74 Carats & 11x12x12 MM. This is a nice and blocky crystal section shaped for high yield. Our personal recommendation would be a Trilliant or Shield Cut as it is well shaped for that. The color is a lovely Grape Green with a very slightly Blue overtone. The stone looks like it should cut eye-clean with a little planning and effort. Please note that the stone does have some minor inclusions concentrated at one end as well as a feather concentrated to the end of one side. The inclusions should facet out with normal faceting and a Shield Cut should easily do away with the feather that runs parallel to the C Axis about 1 millimeter in from the exterior. We anticipate that all inclusions should easily cut out with normal faceting; however, you will have to take a few minutes to plan the orientation of this stone to insure you get an eye-clean or better finished gemstone.

STONE 2

13.40 Carats & 10x11x11 MM. This is a nice and blocky crystal section shaped for super high yield depending on your preferences. The color on this is the most INSANE Fuchsia Pinkish Ruby Red we have seen in quite some time. I don't think there is a better shade of Red that can be had! Our personal recommendation would be a Trilliant Cut; however, there could be several options for this stone depending on clarity and yield preferences. The stone looks like it should cut very slightly to slightly included with a little planning and hard work; however, you could go for an Eye-clean or better stone but this would result in high weight loss. This stone does have some minor inclusions as can be seen in the above pictures. I think the most serious of these is a series of interconnected feathers that are concentrated at one end probably taking up a good 1/3 of the stone. The other inclusions should mask up well once you have determined how you would like to orient this piece to account for the feathers. The color on this has to be seen to be fully appreciated and the inclusions are a small compromise for the color!

STONE 3

14.76 Carats & 10x11x11 MM. This is a nice and blocky nodular crystal section shaped for average yield if cut for clarity. The color on this is a Yellowish to Olive Green and yes, the C Axis is OPEN. Our personal recommendation on this would either be a Round Brilliant or a Shield cut; however, there are other options on this depending on whether you want to use the C axis or AB Axis for the Table facet. The stone looks like it should cut eye-clean to slightly included depending on planning and effort as well as preferences. Please note that the stone does have some minor inclusions and feathering; however, these are confined towards one side and will mask up well if the stone is cut as a Trilliant or Round down the C Axis.

DESCRIPTION:

Awesome lot of three TOP Grape Green to Fuchsia Pinkish Ruby Red Nigerian Tourmalines for Faceting. Please see the above for a detailed description of each particular stone. Every one of these is a SUPER lovely color and an ideally shaped crystal section or nodule. This is the material that runs $50-150+ per carat  once cut and is practically impossible to get your hands on some of this in the rough. This is NOT small material with the average size running almost 16 CARATS!

This is HIGH grade Faceting Rough and most stones should cut Eye-clean to very slightly included with a little hard work and some planning. This lot is not for the amateur and this is PREMIUM ROUGH! If you are interested in similar colored material in smaller sizes there are several lots up and you should take a look at the particulars on them. This stuff has to be seen to be fully appreciated.

COOL FACTS:
  1. Nigeria has steadily risen to be a powerhouse country for Tourmaline production and is now set to eclipse many traditional sources in sheer volume of material. Overall Nigerian material, like most African material, has the brownish overtones, darker colors and lacks the vibrancy and life that Afghan (and some Namibian and Nigerian) Tourmaline is known for; however, many Nigerian and African stones can cut beautiful finished gems that rival Afghan material. From my experience I don't think quality is even questionable as I still haven't seen any Tourmaline Floor me like the Best Afghani material in its natural crystal form! Afghan Tourmaline can cost an arm and a leg and Nigerian material is a great affordable substitute for everyone to have fun faceting some Tourmaline.
