NEON BLUE TO NEON GREEN BICOLORS

Lot: Tourmaline-330

STONE 1

11x12x21 MM - Awesome Neon Green to Neon Blue bicolor Tourmaline. This mine is known for its Neon Blue to Neon Green Bicolors; however, stones tend to be a bit dark and have a closed C axis. In addition, the Blue ends of the stones from this mine tend to be included or with a very uneven split with little Blue capable of showing up in the finished gems. You will need to facet this with steep C Axis angles. The stone has some minor inclusions but these are all confined to the periphery and will all facet out with normal faceting and a little planning. The stone is ideally shaped for high yield and some form of a rectangular cut. We don't anticipate on the Blue showing up in the finished gem as most of the Blue will facet out with normal faceting. This will produce an eye-clean or better finished gem.

STONE 2

10x12x23 MM - Awesome Neon Green to Neon Blue bicolor Tourmaline. The stone has some minor inclusions but these are confined to the periphery for the most part. There are some minor inclusions at the ends, particularly the Blue and even though yield will be high you will have to facet the ends a bit to get rid of the inclusions. The only serious inclusion worth mentioning is one towards the Green end that is on one corner and you will probably have to taper the corners on this for some sort of Emerald cut to produce an eye-clean or better finished gem. This will produce an eye-clean or better finished gem with a little planning and hard work.

COOL FACTS:
  1. Afghan Tourmaline pockets tend to be relatively small in size and as a result consistency in color & quality is a rarity! We have never seen Afghan Tourmaline sold by the kilo with like colored and quality material and lots are generally small in size seldom going over 1/2-1 kilo.

  2. All Afghan Tourmaline is exhumed from primary deposits and as a result mining costs are considerably higher due to dynamite expenditures and traveling expenditures to get to remote mining areas. It is also interesting to note that since all Afghan Tourmaline is from primary deposits most rough will usually have sharp crystal faces.
