We have been shopping around traveling back and forth between Dar Es Salam and Arusha picking up whatever rough we can at a reasonable price since our arrival. Overall, production here is practically at a standstill for everything with the exception of Tanzanite which is going strong; however, Tanzanite prices are hovering around $600-$700 Per Gram for AAA select rough with good shape. Prices for locally cut material in the same quality are running roughly $280-$350 Per Carat. We have managed to stock up a bit on various Garnets, Spinel, Sunset Tourmaline, Moonstone, Chrome Tourmaline, and Umba Sapphires amongst other things. After picking up most of what was available at a reasonable rate in the main markets we are working on finalizing our first trip out into the Bush and we will hopefully be departing within the next day or so.

Mike and me went in for our periodic Malaria test today. I unfortunately tested positive for Malaria while Mike was lucky to dodge it. I'm still trying to figure out how Mike gets away with wearing the T-Shirts and Shorts and I get hit with the bug while covering practically every inch of my body! We are told it is peak Malaria season here and it seems like 20% of the people we are meeting seem to have Malaria! I will be taking it a bit slow for the next few days while on medication which is suppose to run 5 days but can potentially be up to 7.

Mike and me landed in Dar Es Salam, Tanzania early in the morning and will probably be in Tanzania for the next few weeks before moving on to Mozambique and possibly other East African countries depending on rough availability. Please note that our email access is at times severely limited from out here and as a result it will usually take some time before we can reply to emails.

Mike and me will be off to East Africa shortly. Our trip is scheduled to last roughly 4 months; however, that is not firm and we may potentially be in East Africa longer or possibly even less time. Please note that we are short staffed in New York with our trip. There is someone handling all outstanding orders and taking orders for items listed on the site; however, no new offerings will be made from New York until our return. We will post updated contact information for us as far as phone numbers go for the countries we intend on visiting as they become available. SUPER NEW DISCOVERY - TENEBRESENT AFGHAN SCAPOLITE!
We have done it again! This is some of the rarest stuff on earth. We were lucky to procure most of production of a new find of Tenebresent Scapolite from Badakshan, Afghanistan! This material turns to an Aqua Blue with UV exposure. We don't have a whole hell of a lot of this material so make sure you get yourself some before it is all gone!

11/28/05 We will be traveling to Tajikistan today via Afghanistan and are scheduled to spend several days in Afghanistan. Our flight for Tajikistan will depart Kabul at 7:55AM on 12/3/05
11/9/05 URGENT TRAVEL UPDATE - We have departed on our latest buying trip to Pakistan/Tajikistan and therefore are only half staffed in our New York office. We are still handling orders in our New York office; however, correspondence will be via Pakistan for emails at the present time and may be delayed at times because of travel plans here locally as well as net access limitations within the country.

We were unfortunately having considerable difficulty sending out our email due to an increase in subscribers and will have our site moved over to a new hosting company within the next 2 weeks or so. We apologize for any inconvenience caused by any multiple emails that may have gone around. Due to Malaria and approaching parenthood for part of our team, most business here will be at a virtual standstill for the next few weeks at the very least.
6/7/05 We have returned from our buying trip to Tanzania. Please note that part of our team has unfortunately returned with symptoms of Malaria and is currently undergoing medical treatment at a local hospital. Due to our team member's current health, responses to emails & phone calls will be extremely limited until circumstances permit otherwise.

12/2/04 Returned from our buying trip abroad to Nigeria. We will spend the next few days recuperating from our trip and inventorying new material. Once new acquisitions are inventoried we will begin to go through unanswered emails that have remained unanswered since our departure. Please note that we have some unexpected travel plans that have come up for the next few weeks (including a mini "business" vacation to P. R.) and will unfortunately spend much of our time outside of New York though within the US. 11/12/04 Departed to Nigeria on our first buying trip to the country. We are tentatively scheduled to return to the United States on December 2, 2004. 10/5/04 We issued our 13th E-Newsletter from New York. We have been extremely inundated with direct orders and this has slowed down our E-Newsletters to a degree. In addition, part of our team has headed to Pakistan on a buying trip leaving us slightly short staffed and part of the team is planning on a trip to Africa in the near future.
9/30/04 Part of the Intimate Gems team departed to Pakistan late evening. We will hopefully be making some offers directly available from Pakistan if possible. In addition, we are also preparing for an anticipated trip to Africa within the next few weeks hopefully. This is not firmly decided upon but it is looking more likely to happen than not at this time.

9/12/04 We have updated our site to reflect current inventory and incorporated quite a few lots into our site. We are working on issuing a new E-Newsletter; however, due to several clients that did not follow through with their purchases and/or had "medical" emergencies, our next E-Newsletter will essentially be a reissue of such lots for the most part.

9/3/04 We will be migrating our site over to a new hosting company in anticipation of the growth of our site over the next 2 years. Please note that this will force our site down for a period of time. If this goes as smoothly as it should without any glitches we anticipate being online full swing within the next 72 hours. In addition, we have just incorporated a new server into our network to devote to new Works In Progress (WIP).
8/22/04 We sent around our 10th E-Newsletter from New York and are working on our 11th E-Newsletter. We have updated some of our site to reflect sold items and will undertake a total site review within the next few days. In addition, we are working on some major new additions here that we will incorporate into several websites in the near future.
8/7/04 We sent around our 9th E-Newsletter from New York and are working on our 10th E-Newsletter. We are almost caught up with email and things seem to be calming down a bit. Please note that we are expecting several shipments to come in the next few weeks so please stay tuned for updates.
7/17/04 We are getting into the swing of things and will be responding to all outstanding emails & orders within the next 24-48 hours. We updated our site to reflect sold items. We have received a new shipment from Nigeria and are awaiting 3 more shipments, 2 from Pakistan and 1 from Nigeria. As these shipments start making their way in we will finalize the compilation of our next E-Newsletter and forward it out.
7/8/04 We returned late in the evening from our overseas buying trip to Pakistan. Please note that we have quite a few things that we need to catch up on and therefore it will be several days before we get into the swing of things and our network synchronized with Pakistan orders.
7/4/04 We are in the midst of releasing our latest E-Newsletter. Please note that we have just recently regained net access after a several day period where we were lost in Limbo land. We will begin working on emails after the release of our Latest E-Newsletter (#2). PLEASE NOTE THAT due to our presence being required in New York we will be departing for the US hopefully within the week. We have been tentatively assigned a departure date of the 8th but it is not a guarantee due to overbooking here and it being the peak season.
6/25/04 We traveled across country the same day our last E-Newsletter was sent and we have had an EXTREMELY difficult time getting reliable net access and therefore we are only now getting to all the emails we received when our last E-Newsletter was sent out. PLEASE be patient with us as there are too many things that are NOT in our control here for things to go smoothly.
6/20/04 We are glad to say that we are in Pakistan on a shopping spree and all is going well. We are working on our first E-Newsletter from here and it is almost complete. We are looking forward to release it within the next 24 or so hours. Please note that we are undergoing tremendous difficulties establishing a decent connection to the net. We were without reliable Net Access for almost 1 1/2 weeks and are working on procuring a DSL like for our stay here but that is taking longer than expected. We are still backlogged on emails due to our unreliable net connection. We have only recently downloaded emails and will begin answering them as net access stability is achieved at this end! 5/30/04 Departed the US for Overseas buying trip. Our first destination, Pakistan. Please note that we are a bit backlogged with emails and it will take us a little time to catch up with everything as we adjust to the shift in Pakistan.

We have gone through most of our emails but still have quite a few that have to be reviewed for orders placed while we were abroad and/or for particular requests. We are hoping to have all emails answered by the end of the month; however, the holidays may extend that somewhat.
12/3/03 We returned to the US and are undergoing a complete technology overhaul and synchronizing our systems. Please note that we are extremely backed up on answering emails and we are working as fast as we can; however, technology issues have arisen that will take several days to resolve. In addition, we are working on finalizing all overseas orders for which funds were outstanding and/or the Holidays had prevented us from completing prior to our departure. We will hopefully have every order wrapped up within a few days.
11/22/03 Finalized E-Newsletter 6 and emailed it out. TRAVEL UPDATE - WE WILL BE DEPARTING PAKISTAN ON THE 29TH OF THIS MONTH. Please ensure all payments for outstanding orders from Pakistan are sent as soon as possible.
11/4/03 Finalized E-Newsletter 5 and emailed it out. Please note that we are backlogged on emails and are experiencing delays in answering them so please be patient with our email responses.
11/1/03 Updated and restructured our Sold Items section to represent sold items based on location. This Section is now divided in Pakistan & US sales and we are hoping to expand it in the near future.
10/19/03 We released our fourth E-newsletter direct from Pakistan and are working on acquiring additional rough for our fifth E-Newsletter. Please note that we are always traveling back and forth across the country and as a result it is difficult to reply to emails in a timely fashion. It may take us up to 72 hours or more to reply to emails and to confirm reservations of lots.
10/7/03 We are presently working on our third Pakistan E-Newsletter. We have a large volume of lots that will be included on the E-Newsletter and this has delayed its release by a few days. We are finalizing the E-Newsletter at this time and expect to hopefully release it within 24 or so hours. Please note that we will be traveling immediately after releasing our third E-Newsletter and as a result it may take us a little time to reply to emails we receive.
10/3/03 Sent around second Pakistan E-Newsletter with new rough offerings. We are presently working on our next E-newsletter that will hopefully be sent out within 48 hours. Please note that we do not necessarily have access to a computer at all times and as a result there may be a delay in responding to some of your emails.
9/9/03 Finalized new Amendments to our Ordering Policy for shipments we send from outside of the United States. We are presently working on our next E-Newsletter and it will be going out soon. 8/18/03 We are on location in Pakistan acquiring additional rough inventory for our clients. We are working on making rough available directly from Pakistan at extremely discounted prices and have revised our Payment Policy & Information page to reflect new policy changes that will govern all sales made direct from Pakistan as well as any other location we travel to in search of rough outside the US. We are in the process of adding a "Pakistan Direct Offers" link to our site and will be working as brokers with Associates, close Family Members and Friends to bring direct rough offerings from here in Pakistan.
7/16/03 Our flight plans have been confirmed and we will be off on a buying trip from today until roughly the end of October. We updated sold and reserved items throughout our site to reflect current stock and Amended our Ordering Policy to reflect shipments we make from outside of the United States. In addition, we added roughly 40 lots over the last 2-3 weeks and you can view them here: June 18th & June 28th.

5/19/03 We are planning for our next buying trip abroad. In anticipation of our trip we have accelerated our efforts to list rough from recent shipments. A New Email Listing was sent around to our to members for New Deals!
